Afghanistans Former Vice President Mohammad Younus Qanooni on Sunday warned of revolution in the country as he criticized the government.
Speaking during a ceremony to celebrate the anniversary of Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, Qanooni said that the current establishment is the outcome of mujahideen’s resistance.
While noting that the mujhaideen are not seeking overthrow of the establishment, he said that revolution would take place in an establishment which doesn’t address people’s demands and induce reforms.
He also warned against delay in holding elections. Meanwhile, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah’s second deputy, Mohammad Mohaqqiq, criticized the presidency for seeking to launch disputed electronic identity cards. According to a presidential decree, the cards shall contain the term “Afghan” as nationality, a matter disputed by many lawmakers and politicians.
Mohaqqiq said that every ethnic group in the country should be identified by their own name.
He also called for census to begin from scratch.
